TITLE: Helping Men Move Toward Collaborative Relationships

DESCRIPTION:
This workshop will explore the shifting landscape of masculinity as it pertains to collaborative relationships. Men find themselves in a unique place in time with few role models in previous generations and increasing calls for more engagement in relationships. We will discuss these challenges, seek to increase our understanding and empathy, and learn tools for working with men to increase their ability to engage and more fully experience collaborative relationships.
Three Objectives of the presentation:
Objective 1: Participants will gain understanding of current challenges for men
seeking to be collaborative partners.
Objective 2: Participants will learn to better identify and call out barriers that hold couples and men back from forming collaborative partnerships.
Objective 3: Participants will learn to engage with men around these challenges utilizing the tools presented.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. Matt Brown is the founder of Relate Therapy Houston, a group therapy practice located in Clear Lake, and co-host of a weekly podcast entitled The Manspace. Prior to founding his practice, he was Associate Professor and previous Program Director of the UHCL Family Therapy program. He received his doctorate in MFT from Texas Tech University and his master’s in MFT from Brigham Young University. His research and clinical interests have included couples raising children with special needs, intimate partner violence, involved fatherhood, and integrative masculinity. He and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 19 years and are the parents of three amazing daughters.
