How to Be An Anti-Racist Therapist

Eliza Boquin, MA, LMFT & Eboni Harris, MA, LPC, LMFT

Melanin & Mental Health™, LLC was founded by "Two Brown Chicks Changing the Face of Therapy."  Melanin & Mental Health™ was created by Eliza Boquin, MA, LMFT & Eboni Harris, MA, LPC, LMFT - two licensed psychotherapists who wanted to address the gap between the mental health field and Black & Latinx communities.

Research shows that Black & Latinx people are more likely to face mental health challenges due to systemic racism, microaggressions, and trauma yet least likely to go to therapy.  One deterrent is the lack of clinicians of color in the mental health field.  Distrust of the system and the idea that the clinician won't relate to their unique struggles.

They have taken on the task of changing the face of therapy by creating a national online directory of Black & Latinx therapists for clients actively seeking someone from their community, they use their social media platforms to change the narrative around mental health and educating the communities without the psychology jargon. Their “Therapy is Dope” merchandise also helps normalize the conversation around mental health with though-provoking savings like “Therapy is Dope”, “Black Therapists Exist”, “Therapists Need Therapy Too,” and “Self-Care is Sexy."
