Technology Assisted Services: An Update

Stephanie Gabel Zepeda, PhD, LMFT-S

The potential to use technology assisted services (TAS) in the practice of therapy, supervision, and learning has grown exponentially and continues to grow daily. This ability to serve in exciting new ways also comes with new issues and responsibilities that need to be addressed to ensure that we are using best practices with TAS. Specifically for MFTs in Texas, we are now required to obtain specific training in these issues. This training will serve to update practitioners in contemporary technology issues involved in our practice to help our clients.

Participants in the workshop will:

  • Review to board rules for MFTs regarding TAS
  • Explore creative new ways to engage clients using TAS
  • Discuss new issues to consider when using TAS

Stephanie is an assistant professor and clinical director at the Houston campus of the Our Lady of the Lake for the Family Therapy program. She is also on faculty at the Taos Institute and the Houston Galveston Institute, where she co-created a 15-hour Technology Assisted Services training that she has been teaching for 2 years in the Houston area. She maintains a part-time private practice in the West University are of Houston. Her clinical interests include neurofeedback, clinical use of technology, and collaborative practices.
