Kimberly Shappley, national speaker, activist and mother of 6 year old daughter Kai, will be sharing her journey of raising a transgendered child in conservative Texas. Kimberly, a self-described conservative Christian, testified multiple times before the Texas legislature in opposition of the "bathroom bill". Despite her powerful testimony, legislators remain unconvinced.
Joining her will be a panel of therapists and experts from the GLBTQIA Houston community including therapists Julie Cunningham, LMSW, LCDC; Michael Pontello of the Houston Galveston Institute, Glen Hilton, LMFT-S and Michael Devoll, LPC-S.
We are also thrilled to welcome Jay Mays, co-author and chief editor of The Gender Book. Come learn what it means to live and express and perform one's gender role.
You do not want to miss this incredible workshop where we will be having a candid conversation and "no question is a stupid question". With the Texas Legislature just wrapping up this session with more discriminatory laws, this topic is more timely than ever. This subject touches most of us through clients, friends and family members. LMFTs in Texas must be prepared to meet the needs of families in a state where laws legalizing discrimination impact children, couples and families.
